First RA, Now AS

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) 6 years ago. Now I'm told it could be ankylosing spondylitis.

Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. Hi ,

You are definitely not alone, this happened to me as well! 3 Years after being diagnosed with RA, AS decided to add itself to the mix. I asked my doctor whether the RA was misdiagnosed at the time and it was always AS but she believes that I am actually just unlucky enough to have both.

How about you? Was the RA just AS in disguise all these years or are they two separate diagnosis?

How are you getting on with your new diagnosis?

    1. Hey !

I experienced this. I got diagnosed with JRA when I was younger. At this time I was experiencing high levels of pain and inflammation in almost all of my joints, but as I got older and many years of them keeping tabs on where I was getting damage (my spine), they diagnosed me with AS.
This was a long time ago, so as Doreen said there are tests that can be done but know that you are not alone in this experience!

I hope you find some answers and if you ever need to feel free to reach out 😀

      Wishing you the best,
