Plantar fasciitis from AS

Hello everyone. First time on. I was diagnosed with AS 3 years ago. I am currently in the middle of an acute flare up which has badly affected my feet. In particular the right foot is now critical. Unfortunately the feet are not responding to any medication at all despite the fact all other flare up symptoms are gone (ie back, knee and fingers.)

My question is this: is this a regular occurrence and if so, has anyone experienced a similar flare up with plantar fasciitis. Also, will the plantar fasciitis disappear eventually as part of the flare or will it be here indefinitely.

Many thanks from Ireland.

  1. Hello in Ireland! I’ve never had plantar fasciitis, but do get many other tendinitis issues all over. Unfortunately, those symptoms never seem to respond the same to treatment and can take a long time to heal. My boyfriend is a 50 year old daily runner with chronic plantar fasciitis. His advice all came from a very good podiatrist he found. I don’t wanna get into his routine in depth, as it may be considered medical advice. But I can tell you he cannot take a day off from his stretching and other devices or he cannot walk well, let alone run. So good news is it’s manageable! So try to find a good podiatrist that has at least heard of AS 😁
    Hope you feel better!!

    1. I fairly routinely have plantar fasciitis. In my case, it occurs on the same foot as the one with an Achilles heel issue. For me correcting it took two parts. I needed extensive foot surgery and I use arch supports. I had this done in 2017 and since then my foot has seldom hurt, however, the Achilles heel issue does continue to flare up occasionally.

I hope that helps. and most of all welcome to our community. I hope you will look around and interact. It is great to have you join us.
