Surgical Procedure That Actually Helped

I finally found a spine pain management doctor who was actually interested in resolving my lumbar agony. He did a lot of testing with injections and imaging. He had a different conclusion than the others.

A new procedure

It was his suggestion that my pain was coming from the vertebrae's end-plates caused by damaged discs, and arthritic bone ends actually rubbing together. The surgery was called the intracept procedure. They basically burn out the nerve on the inside of the vertebrae.

It was an outpatient procedure involving two tiny cuts and no stitches. As soon as I woke up, the pain was 100% gone from that location. It has been a vast improvement.

My incredible results

I now can walk much more upright, actually bend over to accomplish tasks without collapsing, and I don't have constant aching 24 hours a day. However, it has not cured my ankylosing spondylitis. I still have lots of pain from multiple locations, but I'm very happy to have eliminated that particular spot.

It's something to discuss with a spine specialist, it's a fairly recent addition to the available procedures.

Thought I'd pass it along.
