Happy I Have a Diagnosis

I was finally diagnosed at the age of 49 after suffering for many years.

Each year my symptoms would get worse until I was doing nothing but sleeping or sitting.

My Dr. has me on sulfasalazine, which after 4 months lessened my symptoms and flare-ups considerably.

I can now walk for longer periods and do more around the house.

Glad to start getting my life back.

I’m so glad to hear you’re on the path to managing and treating your AS, @weedie. Seeing my husband not have to use a cane anymore was so amazing. Hoping this keeps up for you!

Thank you so much. Im happy that your husband is able to move without his cane. I bet he’s happy about that. I don’t know what’s worse, stiffness and fatigue or the pain and balance problems.

@weedie Yes! My husband was just talking to me about this. The fatigue and brain fog often cause more problems than the pain. It’s amazing how that can become more problematic.

Glad sulfasalazine is working for you…I tried but after a small decrease in pain it just flared up repeatedly anyways.

It’s been good so far but if I miss a dose I feel the inflammation start creeping back up almost immediately. I just saw the Dr. and he said that there is a shot specifically for AS. I said I was good for now with pain level at a 3-5. But when I got home I started thinking that I may give it a try.
