HLA-B27 Positive, But My Doc Is Still Unsure?

Need some advice...

For a long time now, I have had all the symptoms of AS. When I asked my dr to test me for hla-b27, she said I already tested positive, but they dont think I have it .

So what do I do now ? Sometimes just makes me want to cry im in so much pain.

I have also had quadrouple bypass, I have a partial slipped disc, two collapsed virtibra, 8/9 I believe , arthritis, prosthesis eye, short sighted floaters, and mgus.

  1. Please asked to to refer you to a rheumatologist.

    1. Hi there! Thanks for reaching out.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. We're here to support you.

Is there any way you can see a different doctor? If this doctor is not a rheumatologist, can you ask them to refer you to one? Sometimes we really have to push for this diagnosis. A rheumatologist would be most knowledgeable on AS. And sometimes, we even have to see more than one rheumatologist to get the right answer.

I'm wishing you the best of luck!

      1. I am so sorry you must endure this. I know many in our community can understand because of the length of time it often takes for many with AS to be diagnosed.

Several factors compound this. 1. A positive HLA-B27 test is not a sure sign of having AS. 2. There is no exact definition of what AS is. 3. AS is a multi-symptom disease.

I wish there were a simple thing to say or suggest that you do. I know each of us must find our path to diagnosis or not. I hope that you find your way through. I also have to say that most of us who have traveled this same road know that we have to follow the advice of medical professionals. I know most of us will say keep advocating for yourself, because in the end if it is AS, that diagnosis will be made.
