Tips for Friends with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)

What advice would you give a friend living with ankylosing spondylitis (AS)?

  1. I agree. I have pushed myself to go, been miserable and not a fun person as I’m expected to be. I’ve had to realize I’m not that same person. I had to stop working after 32 years as a nurse. Lost my identity there, lost all my work friends. Can’t chase my young grandkids or play like I used to. I’m still grieving over all that. But I’ve pushed hard, worked hard, raised 3 great kids on my own basically. I’ve fought the good fight and try to continue to do that. I think that’s all any of us can do. And pick up whatever joy you can along the way.

    1. It IS a fight. Some days, it's just keeping your head in the game. Much love and prayers out...

    2. I know what you mean. I keep telling myself one day at a time and on the very bad days, I remind myself that I have done this before and tomorrow will be a better new day. How are you feeling ? How has your week been going ?

  2. Rest, listen to your body, and take time for yourself. You will have bad days, but you will have good days too! Ali (Community Member)
