Steroid Injection Again

I have been scheduled to have another steroid injection for my right SI joint in late October. I have these done approximately 5 times. Honestly I never feel any real relief from them, but docs love to do them. The last time I had one was in 2019 and it was bilateral. When the doctor was inserting the needle, I swear he hit a wrong button because my whole body jumped off the table. It caused so much pain and I actually cried through the rest of the procedure. Now I have had that happen during 2 of the 5. I swore after the last one, I would never have another one. However, I have been dealing with a flare going on 3 months. I have been in so much pain and nothing is helping this time. I have just agreed to go along with it for the chance it could help this time. I am starting to have serious anxiety about it though. Has this painful jumping thing happened with anyone else? Im wondering if its nerve related. Any feedback and tips would be appreciated.

  1. Yes I have had 6 of these procedures. I experienced a lot of pain with the 1st 2 and then the dr. offered to do IV sedation for the others. This helped greatly and I didn't fear them any more.

    1. Thank you , I hope you are keeping well too and having a good start to the week so far . Sending hugs and well wishes to you too .

      1. Hi thanks for getting back me . Yes I think that injection rings a bell with me but I haven't had to have one my self. Sounds like a lot to go through when it doesn’t give you much relief after . Thanks , It’s early days for me on the Enbrel so hoping it keeps working with out too many unwanted side effects . I hope you can find something else that helps ease the pain. Wishing you well 😊

        1. Hi just wondering if when you have had the steroid injection is it the depo one that they inject into your bum cheek “ sorry if that’s not the correct term “? I have only ever had this type offered to me and it’s to work for the whole body in a flare up . I find they usually help and not too painful . I have recently started Benepali “ Enbrel “ and this once a week self Injection has helped me so far with less pain , stiffness and no flare up in my knee thank goodness . I hope you can find something to help you and that doesn’t cause you further pain in the process . Wishing you well .

          1. No that is not the steroid injections I am referring to. I am speaking about the ones that are injected into the actual SI joints or vertebra with the use of xray machines. Yku have to have someone drive you to and from cause you are unable to drive afterward. I have pretty much decided that I am canceling the appointment as I feel it wont help only line the pockets of the physician. I was on enbrel but had to stop because of a neurological side effect. Glad it helps you though. 😊
