Sleep

How to get more sleep? Hi everyone I need tips on getting more/better sleep. I can only last about /20 minutes of sitting, standing or lying down before the lower back pain becomes really intense. In the past year I have purchased 3 different new mattresses and still no relief. The new foam mattresses cause me to sweat a river at night which leads to nightly stripping of sheets and pjs. I am at the point that I can’t have a complete thought! Please suggestions thank you everyone

  1. Hi
I'm so sorry to read that you are struggling so much with sleep. I know the feeling and it is awful.

I agree with , if you havent already spoke to your doctor about this I would advise this! I was having a similar problem, and like I was put on amitriptyline, and it does help me stay asleep all night.

A few months back I decided to improve my sleep hygiene, I made a bed time routine. I have a CBD bath every night, after I will do some gentle stretches while listening to peaceful, calm music. I will then have a cup of Chamomile and CBD tea and take my meds. I downloaded the 'Calm' app and listen to sleep stories to help put me to sleep.

I hope that you find some solutions to your sleep problems soon. I find that yes I would be in too much pain to sleep, but from not sleeping it causes even more pain!

I hope that you are able to get some help soon and get a good night's rest!

    1. Hey there .

I am so sorry you are having so much trouble with sleep. I have been there and I know how torturous it can be. Have you by any chance talked to your doctor about it at all? If not, that may be a great place to start!

Melatonin helps me get to sleep, but a few months back one of my doctors put me on amitriptyline for another condition. It is an anxiety medication but it is also used to treat nerve pain in certain conditions. One of my close friends (who also has AS) was prescribed it for sleep and anxiety as well. With all that being said, I have never slept so hard in my life since being on that medication. I don't know if medication is something you are open to, but I know there are many out there that may be able to help you. I wish I had more suggestions for you, but sleep is in my opinion one of the most tricky things to navigate when it comes to living with AS. I hope you are able to find a solution that is right for you and you're able to get a good night's sleep soon! Best, -Katie, Team Member
