Pain/Symptoms/Diet in AS

My sis has spondylitis but as I have read spondylitis mostly shows low back pain and posture problems. Is it common to have shoulder, rib, neck, clavicle problem in ankylosis spondylitis? Does it also cause increased BP and increased platelet count? Are there any dietary restrictions for AS?

  1. Thanks for reaching out. AS can certainly cause widespread pain (including the ribs, neck, and clavicle areas). This article helps describe many of the symptoms of AS: https://ankylosingspondylitis.net/symptoms
In addition, many in this community have noted dietary adjustments making a difference with their AS. This article may provide some help as well:

    1. I have tried a lot of diets with AS. Gluten free, dairy free and low carb helps me the most. I have IBS also so I think that is why I feel better if I stay away from dairy. If I go off of gluten after having it for while, my pain will be better in three days sometimes. I have neck problems, but I also deal with osteoarthritis.

      1. Thanks for sharing your experience.
