Eyes

Hi im just wondering if any one has lost their sight from a.s I have 3 times now in one eye and takes 3 months to get my sight back

  1. Hi. Sorry to read you have some intolerant people to deal with. Sadly, I think it's almost inevitable to have some people who just don't get what having AS is like. Difficult enough for those who do try to understand, but you'll know, just as we all do, that AS comes complete with its own set of hidden challenges. And, I don't know about you but I struggle telling people about it because I don't want others thinking my AS defines me or that I am making a fuss. It's tricky. But I do hope you get some comfort, if only a little, from knowing that we do get it. We do understand. Stay strong.

    1. No problem & I completely understand that. The constant numbness up & down my arms is awful & people around me are not very tolerant - still demanding I drive them around even after immediately I get my injections - it’s demoralizing & not very supportive

      1. I actually have uveitis. I’ve lost my site half a dozen times. My pupil has broken and now has split. I have to take steroids in my eyes every day. Also weekly I have to go for needles up and down my neck and upper spine/back for AS… You certainly aren’t alone in the losing vision situation - I hope you get your sight back soon. For me it was a good thing when I started seeing shapes again.

        1. hi im glad I'm not the only one too lose there sight as well. But I'm sorry to here about you and your problems too. I haven't lost my sight in a year now fingers crossed but it was very scary it had taken them 6 days in eye hospital and loads of tests to find out it was A.S that was causing my sight loss.and my injections benepali 50mg. So I'm on amgiveta 40mg now and everything seem ok. Hope you're keeping well and thanks for telling me your story it helps alot as people I know and family still don't get A.S, Unless you have it they will never get it.

      2. I've been dealing w/ loss of eyesight, mainly in my left eye due to uveitis from AS. They ( opthamologists) 1st tried plugs of various sizes to plug the tear ducts, they fell out. They then tried cauterizing the eyes, worked temporarily. I am now waiting for these Sclero-lenses that are like contact lenses but cover the Sclera and other affected areas in the hope to stop the constant 1 week so-so eyesight to 1 week no eyesight.
It's kind of hard to drive, read, watch t.v., etc..when u can only see w/ 1 eye, lol. Hope your situation gets better!

        1. hi I totally understand what you're going through it's not nice at all. And it's nice too here I'm not alone. And your not alone too I'm glad I found this site it's easy talking about it when people get me and understand my situation as well. And talking helps I had on one too talk to yes I have a partner and family but they just Don't understand. Hope your eye gets well soon

        2. You are SO right about having a partner, family, loved ones, etc..they cannot fully understand. Not their fault but SO ugggh..just frustrating..So I get you, but even then, only to a point because everones experience w/ this is different. Yet it doesn't mean I don't understand, I DO! feel ya!! Be well my friend!!
