Conflicting results of blood work

Hey all. I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) in July 2021 after experiencing hallmark symptoms (including bilateral sacroiliitis) since November 2020. I have always found it curious that I am HLA-B27 negative with blood work that shows highly elevated rheumatoid factor (RF) and normal results for the C-reactive protein. I have read that those with AS are more likely to be HLA-B27 positive with normal RF results and high C-reactive protein results; the exact opposite. Is this the case for anyone else as well? I don’t doubt that I have AS, but I do wonder if I am an unusual case or if studies could be more complete.

  1. Hi how are you? How high has your CRP been? i got my three month lab work done and it´s the highest ever 60 ml/L

    1. Hi

How are you feeling today? Yes they brought both sites together. Have you been able to create a new account ?

My CRP was high. I don't remember exactly how high it was, but it helped me with my diagnosis. I can see yours is high as well. It is possible to bring it down. It took time for me, but it's still high but not where it was.

      Hope your doing well,

  2. Hi @ebabbey

I think everyone’s diagnosis can be different. I sometimes second guess myself if maybe my diagnosis was the right one. Especially when I am feeling well and not in a flare. I am also negative in the gene. But after seeing a second rheumatologist, got diagnosed with MRI that showed inflammation on one side of my sacroiliac joints. My crp also was high but my RF normal ranges. I really think it depends also on your symptoms. I have seen in the community where some have non of the above and get diagnosed with just the symptoms.

How have you been feeling lately? Are you on a treatment plan?
