Anyone got some hot travel tips?

I'm planning a couple of short trips- one to NYC in July and one to Italy in September 😁

Very excited to have a break but a little nervous about traveling- it will be my first time away from home since my diagnosis.

I'd love to hear your travel tips! Like what do you always take that helps you, how do you travel with medications (mine need to be refrigerated), what helps you on a long flight? What kind of luggage do you use?

For context I walk with a cane now, but used to be a backpacker who climbed mountains... so suitcases on wheels are a whole new world and I have no idea what to look for- or if it's even the best option! I'll be traveling solo too, for the most part.

I'd love to hear any other travel tips or tricks you have too. 😀

Also- if anyone has some suggestions on things to see/do in Italy I'd love to hear them!

  1. , Hi Alicia, I know your apprehension about travel in Europe with AS. I like you, now relay on a cane to walk
( when younger with mild AS I was an avid cyclist and hiker and had no fear of walking long distances when visiting Europe) . Now I am much more limited in the distance I am capable of. So now I have to plan accordingly. This includes , check out the distance you will be walking and put it in perspective of what you can do. Then look at public transportation, cabs, light rail, (for me also bikes) , for the rest of the distance.
-I am going to go visit my daughter in Copenhagen in Sept. and have the same concerns as you about how much walking etc. I can do.
My plan for carrying biologics is pack them in a cold bag with frozen ice pack, then as soon when you get to your hotel, put them in the fridge.
You can do a European trip with AS but it takes some more thought and planning,
(and adding limits), we can go but can't be as freeform as we once were. - Hope you have a good trip.

      NYC and Italy, how exciting!
I was recently in Italy and loved it! Venice was gorgeous, if you can make it work, I highly recommend Rome and Milan as well. I did a lot of traveling throughout Italy by train and it was wonderful. Pacing yourself is key, hydrate and rest whenever you can. Pack the most comfortable shoes. and extra meds as well (always good to be prepared for anything). Planning and preparing for an upcoming trip is so exciting!
